Albuquerque Celebrities!

A trip to Albuquerque wouldn’t be complete without a stop by some of the best shops, restaurants, and historical sites in the area, but if your vacation needs something a little more, like some star power, you don’t have to be disappointed. There are lots of celebs from this area, and during your vacation, you’re likely to see any of them making a visit to their hometown.

  • Famed actor Neil Patrick Harris is from the city. His current hit TV show, How I Met Your Mother, and past hits, like Doogie Howser MD, have earned him a serious following among fans as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He actually attended La Cueva High School and was in a number of school plays and musicals there. It was his stint at a drama camp in Las Cruces that earned him the attention of playwright Mark Medoff.
  • Mystic Pizza star Annabeth Gish is also from the area, though only just. She was born in Albuquerque, but her parents moved her to Northern Iowa at a fairly young age.
  • Willow Shields of The Hunger Games calls Albuquerque her hometown, too. She got her first job in 2008 when she narrated the film, “Las Vegas New Mexico 1875.”
  • Albuquerque also plays host to movie sets during filming and stars, like Brad Pitt most recently, can be spotted in restaurants and bars after a day’s work on the set.

This is hardly an exhaustive list of famous people who were born in the area. Other actors include French Stewart, Seth Adkins, Mike Judge, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Tony Vincent. Writers include Rudolfo Anaya, Tony Hillerman, War Correspondent Ernie Pyle, and Leslie Marmon Silko. The founder of Jeff Bezos was also born in the area, as was noted balloonist Richard Abruzzo.

Los Angeles might be the city of the stars, but Albuquerque has some star power behind it, too.
