Festival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque
The beauty, art, and fire of Flamenco dance! Music and dance have never been so intricately intertwined as with flamenco, and now you can see it and experience it yourself.
Albuquerque’s annual Festival Flamenco Internacional will begin June 8th and last until June 14th, which gives you plenty of time to learn a few moves and check out much of what the festival has to offer. From performances to live music, dance lessons and food, there are a lot of activities that you can see and participate in while attending.
One of the best parts about the festival is watching the professionals put on a show. Performance times can vary, so be sure to check first. Fiery music paired with dancers’ stunning skills and beautiful gowns is a treat to see. If you’d like to learn some moves yourself, there are multiple workshops that help you get started in the art of flamenco.
Flamenco has a rich history, and you can find out more with the history conference, or even with the films shown during the festival. Food is also a way to celebrate flamenco, which is why local restaurants bring in amazing plates for people to sample – also a good way to recharge after so much dancing!
There is also a Flamenco Kid’s Camp that gives kids the chance to learn how to dance flamenco as well. From a free show to interacting with various artists, it can be an excellent event for children to attend!
Check out events you’re interested in and make notes, as they can be at different locations – the festival will be held at the Rodey Theatre at UNM campus, as well as the KiMo Theatre and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
